Mauritius: Hiking at Le Pouce Mountain – Group Half Day

Le Pouce Hiking – Half Day

    • Minimum 2 persons

Hike up one of the most famous mountains in Mauritius, Le Pouce Mountain, to enjoy unique views over Port Louis and its vicinity.

Le Pouce also known as ‘’the thumb’’ is the third highest mountain in Mauritius, peaking at 812m and is located in the North West of the island between Pieter Both and Signal Mountain. The first person credited with climbing this mountain was Charles Darwin.

It takes roughly just over an hour to reach the summit passing over an old track that once linked St Pierre to Port Louis in the 18th Century. It is also surrounded by 68 hectares of nature reserve which is home to many endemic plants.

From the summit you have an amazing 360 degree panoramic view of Mauritius. This standpoint allows you to look across the northern part of the island which is exceptional, reaching as far as the smaller islands such as Flat Island and Snake Island and as you turn your head in another direction your gaze falls upon Port Louis – the capital, Moka – the high grounds of Plaine Wilhems and to the west of the island.
