Come and discover the biggest nature reserve on the island!!

 

This nature reserve situated in the hilly South – Western part of Mauritius is a nature lover’s dream covering roughly 6500 hectares (Aprox 2 % of the surface of the island). Many endemic plants and animals can be found in the park, including the Mauritian flying fox and all of the island’s endemic birds such as the Mauritius kestrel, the pink pigeon, the Mauritius parakeet,the  Mauritius cuckoo-shrike, the Mauritius bulbul, the Mauritius olive white-eye,the Mauritius grey white-eye and the Mauritius fody.

 

The hike takes you along the edge of Macchabée forest with stunning views towards the west and looking onto waterfalls below in the gorges. You will then hike around the Mare Lonque and back towards Le Pétrin.

The Black River Gorges is famous for its waterfalls ,views and of course its hiking trails making it a must do activity for all trekkers, nature lovers and bird-watchers.

This excursion takes you into the heart of the indigenous forest where you will learn about its history,its vegetation and exotic bird life mixed together with breathtaking views.
