Coral Farmer Tour
An activity of discovery, participation, and learning!
You will discover how our efforts to restore our coral reefs and lagoons to their former glory is progressing by visiting our sea-based coral farm.
You can engage in our daily activities by helping us measure and record the growth and health of our coral fragments, as well as clean and maintain the culture tables while snorkeling. At the same time, you will learn about coral and coral reefs, the Mauritian marine ecosystem, and our strategy and plan to preserve and restore damaged coral colonies.
This is a hands-on learning and discovery activity. From the get-go, you will have an interactive presentation on coral species and coral reefs. The presentation will explain coral’s importance in the marine ecosystem and its role in the global environment.
Take a look at the monitoring methodology of coral health: training or identifying healthy versus distressed corals and techniques for assessing coral coloration.
You will see how coral growth is measured and learn how to use the tools and methods for measuring coral growth accurately. You will also delve in to the importance of monitoring growth rates to assess the restoration progress, together with the maintenance of culture tables to prevent disease and pests.
