Description:
A private full-day activity exploring the capital city, Port Louis, and the northern parts of the island.
After pick-up from your accommodation, you head to Port Louis – a city steeped in tradition and culture. Street food in abundance for you to take your taste buds on a culinary delight. Port Louis combines a good mix of old and new – stop at traditional markets or modern malls like Caudan Waterfront for some quick shopping or just to quell your curiosity.
The next stop is at the Citadelle, an historical military fortress site that features ruins and cannons overlooking the city of Port Louis on one side and rugged mountain ranges on the other.
Visit Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens a wide open park that is home to several species of animals, plants, and ponds including the iconic giant water lilies. Before heading back to your accommodation, a final stop can be made at a defunct sugar factory now transformed into a museum that depicts the history of sugar production in Mauritius. Take advantage of the free sampling of sugar and local rums!

Visit the city of Port Louis – The capital of Mauritius
You will be spending a couple of hours in the markets of the capital of Mauritius – Port Louis, located on the northwest coast. There you will have the chance to experience the culture of Mauritius
You can taste the exotic and delicious Mauritian street food. At the Caudan Waterfront and Port Louis Waterfront Shopping complex, you can find famous luxury duty-free shops and eat at exquisite restaurants (not included in price)
Visit Fort Adelaide (also known as La Citadelle)
This is a British old fort built between 1834 and 1840 and has no become a national monument. It is located 73 meters above sea level, and offers stunning views of the Moka mountain range and the Harbour below.
The Pamplemousses National Botanical Garden is where you can find spices like camphor, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove trees, and many more including many species of trees, giant tortoises, deers, stags, and ponds filled with giant waterlilies.
You can visit the Chateau Mon Plaisir and a replica of the first sugar mill
Visit and tour of the Sugar Estate & Museum
The museum is located in the Beau Plan Sugar Estate, in Pamplemousses village
You’ll learn about the historical and cultural side of the sugarcane production in Mauritius
More interestingly, visitors can get to sample different types of unrefined sugars
For adults, there is rum tasting, including various sugar rums, spiced and aged rums, and flavoured rums
Visit the colonial house of Château de Labourdonnais (optional)
The Château de Labourdonnais was built in 1856. For over 150 years, it has been the home of the Wiehe family. Refurbished in 2006, today it is considered as one of the most cultural sites in Mauritius
Here there are giant tortoises to discover and at the end of your visit you can sample different varieties of products including delicious rums, jams, fruit jellies, and fruit juices which are made on the estate.
